CLEANING SAFETY
- In order to avoid harming
yourself or the building's occupants, always use the mildest
chemicals that will do the job effectively.
- Corrosive chemicals can
blind you in seconds. Always
wear goggles to protect your eyes.
- Read the Code of Safe Practices
entitled "Hazard Communications."
- Corrosive chemicals can
damage your skin and leave scars.
Also, some hazardous chemicals can be absorbed through
your skin. Always wear gloves to protect your hands.
- Some hazardous chemicals
are easily inhaled. Be
sure that your work area has enough ventilation.
- Mixing different products
together can create poisonous chemicals.
NO NOT mix products, and always rinse out buckets thoroughly
after each use.
- Protect yourself from contact
with fungi, bacteria and other potentially infectious agents
that may be present in showers and sinks.
Wear gloves, goggles appropriate.
If you choose to wear a respirator, read the Code of
Safe Practices entitled "Respirators."
- Always wear gloves when
emptying restroom trash cans, as they may contain blood, hypodermic
needles, or broken glass.
- Never clean up blood or
other bodily fluids unless you have received Bloodborne Pathogens
Training, are authorized by your supervisor to handle the
job, and you are wearing gloves, goggles, and any other Personal
Protective Equipment deemed necessary by your Supervisor.
